The article highlights the importance to encourage children to build up their vocabulary as part of their language development from early on. Children with richer vocabulary tend to be more skillful in using words, which in turn will help them to better succeed in school. Some children enter kindergarten with as many as 3,000 words at their disposal while others have 1,000 or less, according to some researches. The article emphasizes that parents play an important role in stimulating the children’s interest in learning language from early on by initiating explorative conversations or through nursery rhymes and reading aloud.
