Discrimination against Madrassas

Republika p11 Assistant of Regional Secretary for Economic and Development of Yogyakarta said the rule on grants and assistance from the local budget often leads to discrimination against Madrassas, because it minimizes government involvement in disbursement of funds to madrassas. Madrassas can only receive BOS fund channeled by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Selasa, 8 Januari 2013. Republika p11 Keluarnya beleid terkait pengaturan pemberian hibah dan bantuan social dari APBD  mendapat sorotan dari Asisten Perekonomian dan Pembangunan Sekretaris Daerah Yogyakarta Astungkoro. Menurutnya, aturan ini meminimalisasi keterlibatan pemerintah pusat dalam penyaluran dana untuk madrasah. Pemerintah daerah akan menemui kendala saat akan memberikan bantuan, terutama kepada madrasah.

Religious Ministry to Equalize Pesantren’s Status

Republika, Page 12 Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali said the government will soon make the status of Islamic boarding schools or pesantren equal with other formal schools. This will be done by requiring final year students of pesantren to also sit the national exam with tested subjects adjusted to pesantren curriculum.
