Some 400 elementary school students and four expecting mothers in Poto Village, Fatuleu Barat, Kupang Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur, have suffered food poisoning. According to Stefanus Baha, the head of the Kupang Regency Public Relations Agency, they had consumed contaminated food provided as part of the Healthy and Clever Generation scheme under the National Self-Reliant Communities Empowerment (PNPM) program. He said that after consuming the contaminated food, the victims felt nauseous and started to vomit. They were then brought to the nearest community health center (Puskesmas) for treatment. A medical team that was sent to investigate concluded that the food poisoning was caused by contaminated hens’ eggs.
