Rectors of former seven state-owned corporation universities (PTN BHMN) made a statement of position, asking the public to properly understand the concept of autonomy for higher education institutions acknowledged in the Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education. Even though academic and non-academic autonomy is given to every state university, the role of the state in funding shall remain. The statement was made by the rectors of seven state universities, i.e. University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, Bogor Agricultural University, Bandung Institute of Technology, University of North Sumatra, Indonesia Education University (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia), and Airlangga University.
