Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Thahaja Purnama has said that a review on the possibility of abolishing Education Operational Assistance (BOP) for disadvantaged students would have to be completed before the start of the new school year. Ahok said that more than 90 percent of the students attending private schools could be categorized as disadvantaged.
Ahok is currently considering the abolition of BOP funds for disadvantaged students based on the need for equality as between state and private schools. State schools receive BOP funds in full, while private schools only receive 20-30 percent.
