The success of the new curriculum to be introduced in July will depend on the role played by local governments. Golkar member of the House of Representatives (DPR)’s Commission X, Zul Fadhli, said that local governments must prepare themselves properly to apply the new curriculum.
For example, he said, issues concerning teachers and the supply of new books must be overcome by local governments so that the curriculum can be correctly applied in accordance with the guidance provided by the center. If local governments do not fulfill their roles correctly, then the new curriculum will not be capable of being applied optimally.
Speaking during a familiarization event, the Minister of Education and Culture said that the new curriculum represented a major breakthrough by the Ministry of Education and Culture. While it had caused a lot of unease and controversy, the new curriculum was essential given the neglected state of education in Indonesia at the present time.
