Every medical graduate will be required to serve in isolated and border areas of Indonesia. This obligation is stipulated in the Medical Education Bill, which is currently under deliberation. According to Popong Oce Junjunan, a member of the DPR’s Commission X, the Bill sets specific minimum quotas for medical students from areas such as Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua, and Aceh. However, after graduation they would be required to serve in the areas of origin. As regards medical school fees, these would be kept down so as to be affordable to the majority of potential students.
