As many as 2,400 nationally selected educationalists (Bachelors of Education), this March, begin teachers’ in-dormitory professional education throughout Indonesia at the government’s expense. The program will be attended by would-be teachers for 6-12 months with the objective to qualify educationalists for being professional teachers.
The in-dormitory Teachers’ Education Program is spread over 12 educational personnel institutions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, Semarang, Gorontalo, Malang, Manado, Medan, Denpasar, Padang, and Bandung.
Each participant would receive pocket money of Rp 300,000 per month. Would-be teachers of Kindergarten-Primary School and Playgroup and teachers of a subject will be educated for 6 months and 1 year, respectively. The Teachers’ Education Program is mandated by Law No. 14 of 2005 concerning School Teachers and University Lecturers. In accordance with the Law, teachers in Indonesia must be graduates of education or non-education D-4 or S-1 programs and Teachers’ Education Program.
