Thousands of counterfeit “Exam Grade” pencils have been destroyed in Karawang. The head of the Local Government Education Agency, Taufik Yudi Mulyanto, said that school principals would be informed of the problem. He added that the authorities needed to take action against the counterfeiters. He said that the problem was serious as students used the pencils during their national examinations. Consequently, he warned that parents and students needed to purchase their school supplies at authorized distributors and reputable stores. He said that authentic 2B pencils produced neater results, and did not puncture the paper so easily. He was also concerned that the fake pencils might not be computer-readable. If not, he said, data-entry staff should recheck the information.
