As many as 300 senior vocational schools (SMK) in various regions have started to pilot the government’s community college program by offering one-year diplomas in continuing vocational education (PVB) program in partnership with 14 participating universities. The SMKs function as sub-campus under the PVB program. Meanwhile, the Association of Indonesian Private Higher Education Board (ABPTSI) said the government should have not established community colleges in regions where many local private universities already offered similar vocational courses.
