The Indonesian School Counselor Association (ABKIN) has drawn attention to a severe lack of school counselors at both junior and senior secondary education levels. The country, which now has only 33,000 school counselors, needs 92,000 more in order to be able to provide proper service for about 18 million SMP/SMA students, said ABKIN chairman Eddy Wibowo. The ideal school counselor-student ratio is 1:150, he added.
