Members of the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission X overseeing education have again raised questions over a sudden surge in the government’s budget for the 2013 national curriculum to Rp2.49 trillion from the initially proposed of Rp684.4 billion. Lawmakers also questioned progress of preparations toward the new curriculum implementation. Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh reiterated the government’s intention to stick to its plan to apply the new curriculum gradually starting this year, arguing that all preparations were going well. In Southeast Sulawesi, teachers in Kolaka regency urged the government to begin the new curriculum socialization soon and to clarify impact of the new curriculum on subject teachers whose subjects were eliminated under in the new curriculum.
