Some students and school officials in Banten and Southeast Sulawesi have raised concerns about a requirement in the 2013 State University National Entrance Selection (SNMPTN) for students to include their local state university (PTN) in their university choices. This rule is unfair for students from provinces where there is only one PTN available and benefiting students from Java provinces where PTNs are abundant. Chairman of the SNMPTN committee, Akhmaloka said the requirement was meant to ensure all PTNs, not only the favorite ones, have the opportunities to attract students. The 2013 SNMPTN offers 150,000 or 50% of the total seats allocated for new students.
