The Ministry of Education and Culture failed to answer a summons issued by the National Commission on Human Rights to attend a meeting yesterday to clarify its plan to revise the Government Decree No.74/2008 on Teachers. The ministry’s spokesperson Ibnu Hamad said he was not aware of the summons. The Commission’s summons followed a complaint filed by the Indonesian Federation of Teachers Unions (FSGI), the Indonesian Independent Teachers Federation (FGII) and the Indonesian Teachers Association (IGI), which objected the decree revision plan because it will only put restriction on teachers’ freedom of association.
