President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has warned elementary (SD) and junior high (SMP) schools against charging fee to students especially because they have been provided with an increasing amount of school operational assistance (BOS). The BOS is currently set at Rp580,000 and Rp710,000 per student for SD and SMP, respectively. Every year the government increased the education budget, yet complaints about school fee continued to surface, he said after chairing a cabinet meeting on education issue yesterday at the office of Ministry of Education and Culture.
