The DKI Jakarta provincial administration has set aside Rp97.4 billion out of its 2012 budget to help 38,756 disadvantaged students pursuing education from elementary to university levels, said Jakarta education agency head Taufik Yudi Mulyanto. He said the fund will also be used to support more than 1,000 students joining study groups to obtain the equivalent of the SD, SMP and SMA level of education (Packets A, B and C). The administration also allocated billions of Rupiah in education operational assistance (BOP) fund to help 7,736 students studying in Open SMPs as well as 1,570 and 6,415 others taking the Packets B and C. Meanwhile, Indonesia Corruption Watch has warned against possible delay in the scholarship disbursement. ICW said that just like the school operational assistance (BOS), disbursement of scholarship has often been hindered by bureaucracy procedures and delay in the regional budget approval by the Regional Representatives Council.
