The Ministry of National Education’s Director for Secondary School Supervision Didik Suhardi said schools that receive the government’s school operational assistance (BOS) fund should no longer use the fund to buy textbooks, but take a portion of the special allocation budget (DAK) to finance the procurement instead. This is in line with changes in the BOS and DAK allocation and usage, he said. The portion in the BOS fund initially allocated for textbooks purchase should be used for other more important needs of the school, he added. He said the government has allocated Rp5.6 trillion worth of DAK for elementary schools and Rp3.7 trillion for junior high schools this year, which can be used for, among others, school renovation and textbooks procurement.
