Despite the three-day deadline extension, some provinces still reported a low school registration turnout for the 2013 State University National Entrance Selection (SNMPTN). In East Java and Yogyakarta, for example, only about half of their local senior secondary schools completed the preliminary school and student database (PDSS) registration. Officials from the East Java SNMPTN committee and the Yogyakarta education agency attributed the low turnout in part to a lack of knowledge of the new registration system on the part of school administrators. Going forward, schools should be allowed to begin registering their students’ grades early on starting from the first year so that they can be well prepared and in turn able to complete the PDSS registration accurately and efficiently, said Yogyakarta education agency head Baskara Aji.
