The Association of Indonesian Private Universities (Aptisi) has raised concerns that the government’s higher education sector internationalization plan may hurt local private universities. The government should guarantee that the presence of foreign universities here will not cause harm by imposing clear limits and regulations on foreign universities establishment, said Aptisi chairman Edi Suandi Hamid. The Ministry of Education and Culture’s Director General of Higher Education Djoko Santoso said there was no reason to fret over education internationalization plan because the draft bill on higher education, which regulates the plan, contained articles to ensure foreign universities establish and operate in accordance to the country’s education policies and related regulations.
